Tip#5: Don't hide your prices

Published: Monday, 26 November 2007

A very common problem with small business web sites is their inability to be open with their pricing. They will take the time to instill the virtue of their product, but when it comes to the price, they will be very coy.

Why? Are they embarrassed by their price? Are they charging too high? Do they not want their competitors to know?

How many times, as a potential customer, have you come across a site that has:

  • Has a telephone number to find out a no-fuss no-obligation quote
  • Ring for the latest prices
  • Fill in a long form that is basically your contact details for a quote

What this tells the customer, is that your website is not updated often enough to reflect the current prices, which then tells them that maybe the product information is also out of date.

Don't be shy to shout about your prices. Your competitors will already know what you charge already, so what are you losing?

"... buy from the site that has enabled them to make the informed decision there and then"

Depending on your product type, the majority of potential customers will be looking at your site out of hours, and will most likely not bother to contact you in the morning. They will instead buy from the site that has enabled them to make the informed decision there and then.

Do not make it hard for your clients to do business with you. You have gone to the trouble of providing them with a website full of information on your products. Do not deny them the one piece of information they desire the most: the price.
